Most women eventually make the same trade. You can have a shoe that looks the way you want, or a shoe you can actually stand in all day — and for a long time the market has asked you to pick one.

Lauren Shoes exists because that trade is unnecessary. Cushioned footbeds, flexible soles and sensible heel heights are not incompatible with a good-looking boot. They just cost more attention to get right, and most brands would rather spend that attention on the photograph.

What we make

A focused collection, not a catalog: ankle boots and booties, loafers and moccasins, flats, mules and sandals. Every pair is chosen for how it feels at hour eight, not hour one. If a style cannot pass that test, it does not go on the site.

We describe materials honestly. When an upper is leather, we say leather. When it is synthetic or faux fur, we say that too, on the product page, before you buy. A shoe that photographs well and arrives as something else is not a bargain.

• Honest delivery estimates. We publish the real window — 13 to 21 business days — rather than an optimistic one that makes the checkout page look better and your week worse.
• 30 days to change your mind, for any reason. Size exchanges are free; we send the prepaid label.
• A real answer within one business day. Email reaches a person, and that person will tell you if a pair is wrong for you even though saying so costs us the sale.
